Featuring guitarist Josh Klinghoffer (who replaced the mighty John Frusciante), I'm With You is the Peps' conscious attempt to get in good with the indie-dance scene. As a consequence, the album is their funkiest since Californication. But rather than punk-funk, the group is more concerned with four-on-the-floor disco cool (a quality that really comes out on both "Monarchy of Roses" and "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie"). That said, not every tune is dancefloor fodder. "Brendan's Death Song," for example, is a ballad ruminating on old friend Brendan Mullen, who passed away in 2009.
