Mylo Xyloto

Coldplay

Released: Oct 2011
Label: Parlophone UK
When you're as huge as Coldplay, you can get away with making things up, like the nonsensical title to this, their fifth album, or dubious lyrics like "You use your heart as a weapon/ And it hurts like heaven." We forgive Chris Martin and co. for this because they still do some of the best stadium-rock-for-the-sensitive-dude around, and hey, they're even cool enough to get Rihanna (!) for the electro-funky "Princess of China." But mostly, Mylo Xyloto is calculated Coldplay, pinned together with sparkling drones and huge builds, with standouts in "Paradise" and the quiet groove "Up in Flames."
